Doing the Icefields Parkway from Calgary in one day
It can be done, and this is the tour that does it best — but be clear-eyed about the shape of the day. Calgary is not on the Icefields Parkway. It sits about 130 km east of Banff — an hour and a half on the Trans-Canada before the scenic road even begins — and you drive it again in the dark on the way home.
What you get in exchange is a genuinely full corridor itinerary — this tour does not cut corners to save time:
- Lake Louise — 30 minutes
- Crowfoot Glacier Viewpoint — 15 minutes
- Bow Lake — 30 minutes
- Peyto Lake — 45 minutes (the longest Peyto stop of any Calgary departure)
- Columbia Icefield Skywalk — 1 hour
- Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure — 2 hours
That is more time at Peyto than the all-inclusive Banff tour gives you (which does not stop there at all), and the same Icefield time as most Banff departures. The cost is the driving, and only you can price that.
If a single long day sounds punishing, the cards below include a 2-day and a 3-day Calgary tour that spread the same ground out. For most people staying in Calgary and wanting the Icefield once, the one-day trip is the right call — but the multi-day options exist for a reason.
Canmore travellers: this is your page
Canmore sits on the Calgary–Banff run, so Canmore pickups are folded into Calgary-corridor tours rather than getting their own departures. The featured tour collects at the Travel Alberta Canmore Visitor Information Centre, and several others in the cards below do the same. Searching “columbia icefield tour from canmore” and “icefields parkway tour from canmore” lands you here for that reason — these are the tours that will actually pick you up.
The tickets are not included — and the time slot matters
Get the slot wrong and you will be at the Centre with a ticket for a time your coach has already left. Buy them from the attraction, or get Columbia Icefield Skywalk tickets here, and match the time to your tour.
The same tour is also explicit that the Columbia Icefield and Skywalk close from mid-October until early May — it lists the closure right in its own highlights. Book a winter Calgary departure and you will get the drive and the lakes, not the ice.
What’s included, and who shouldn’t book
Included: pickup from a designated point in Calgary, Canmore or Banff; a tour guide; and transportation by bus or van. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. The tour is currently discounted — the list price is $92, the going rate $72.
Not included: the Columbia Icefield and Skywalk tickets, meals, travel insurance, personal expenses, and gratuities.
The operator states plainly that the tour is not suitable for people with mobility impairments or heart problems, and asks you to dress in layers because the weather changes fast at altitude. Take both at face value — this is a long day that finishes at 2,000 m on ice.
How the Icefields Parkway Tour from Calgary Works
Downtown pickup, the Bow Valley, the Parkway, and three hours at the ice.
Pickup — Calgary, Canmore or Banff
Delta Hotels Calgary Downtown, the Travel Alberta Canmore Visitor Information Centre, or Banff Caribou Lodge. Transport by bus or van, with a tour guide.
Lake Louise & the Crowfoot Glacier
Thirty minutes at Lake Louise, Herbert Lake passing by, then 15 minutes below the Crowfoot Glacier — and 30 minutes at Bow Lake.
Peyto Lake — 45 Minutes
The longest scenic stop of the day, up at Bow Summit. Time to walk to the platform and actually stand there, rather than turn straight around.
Skywalk & Glacier Adventure
An hour on the glass-floored Skywalk and two hours at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure. Tickets are NOT included — book them separately, and pick a 2:00 or 2:15 PM slot so it lines up with the coach.

What Our Guests Say
"A long day but we saw so many wonderful places. Towards end we were lucky enough to see a black bear!"
"Spent the whole day touring with Ram. He was very informative and very willing to spend time with his passengers making sure they got the maximum benefit from their day’s touring. Peyto Lake was the most beautiful natural scene I experienced for the day without the distraction of big crowds. The Skywalk and the Icefield Explorer add-ons were both wonderful experiences."
"We had a great day with Ram as our guide/driver. Peyto Lake was covered completely with low clouds in the morning so he made sure we stopped by on our way back in the evening to witness its beauty. We had great company in the other guests on board. It was an awesome day. Also, do the glacier tour because it is amazing."

"This tour is worth every penny. The Columbia Icefields, Glacier Skywalk, and stunning lakes are absolute must-sees. Everything was incredibly well-organized from start to finish. A massive thank you to our driver and guide, Aashish, who made our day perfect! He was professional, deeply knowledgeable, and an excellent, safe driver. He kept the mood fun and ensured we had the best possible experience at every single stop. Highly recommended!"

Icefields Parkway Tour from Calgary — Frequently Asked Questions
The length of the day, the Canmore question, and the ticket time slot.
Yes — several tours do, from $63. But be clear about the shape of it: Calgary sits about 130 km east of Banff — an hour and a half on the Trans-Canada — so you drive the whole Bow Valley before the scenic road even begins, and again on the way home in the dark. The featured tour still delivers a full itinerary — 45 minutes at Peyto, an hour on the Skywalk and two hours at the Glacier Adventure. The cost is the driving.
From $63. The featured tour is currently discounted from a $92 list price to about $72. Multi-day options from Calgary — a 2-day Banff highlights tour at $266 and a 3-day Rockies tour at $211 — spread the same ground over more days if a single long day sounds punishing.
Yes. Canmore sits on the Calgary–Banff run, so Canmore pickups are folded into the Calgary-corridor tours rather than getting their own departures. The featured tour collects at the Travel Alberta Canmore Visitor Information Centre, and several others do the same. That is why searches for a Columbia Icefield tour from Canmore land here.
No. The featured tour states directly that the ticket for the Columbia Icefield and Skywalk is not included. Book them separately and — this matters — reserve a 2:00 PM, 2:15 PM or 2:30 PM time slot, because that is when the coach reaches the Glacier Discovery Centre. Get the slot wrong and you will be there with a ticket for a time your coach has already left.
A full one. The published stops alone come to about five and a half hours — Lake Louise 30 minutes, Crowfoot Glacier 15 minutes, Bow Lake 30 minutes, Peyto Lake 45 minutes, Skywalk 1 hour, Glacier Adventure 2 hours — and the round-trip driving from Calgary is substantial on top of that.
The featured tour lists the closure in its own highlights: the Columbia Icefield and Skywalk close from mid-October until early May. Book a winter Calgary departure and you will get the drive and the frozen lakes, but not the ice. Confirm current dates with the operator before booking a shoulder-season date.
The operator states plainly that it is not suitable for people with mobility impairments or heart problems. It also asks you to dress in layers, because the weather changes rapidly — this is a long day that finishes at about 2,000 m on a glacier.
Pickup from a designated point in Calgary, Canmore or Banff; a tour guide; and transportation by bus or van. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. Not included: the Columbia Icefield and Skywalk tickets, meals, travel insurance, personal expenses and gratuities.
